William C. Olmstead
William "Bill" C. Olmstead, 69, of Edmond, Okla., passed away Jan. 20, 2020.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at the American Legion Building, 101 East 5th Street, Edmond. Alan Sample will officiate the service.
Bill was born Feb. 1, 1950, in Tonkawa, Okla., to Marguerite and Harris Olmstead. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, Okla., completed his associate degree from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, and completed his associate degree at Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee, Okla. He worked as a clerk for United Founders Insurance Company for 15 years. He worked as a sous chef/ delivery person for Mazzio's Pizza for 18 years.
Bill served in the Army Aviation Unit in Norman, Okla., Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1968 to 1970. He also served in the Navy from 1970 to 1975 on the Nimitz aircraft carrier. Bill's time in the service brought many good memories and he was proud to be a veteran.
Bill was a member of the Oklahoma City Gun Club where he participated in numerous competitions, and he was a member of the American Legion Post 111.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, Harris Olmstead, and his mother, Marguerite Olmstead.
Bill is survived by his brother, Randy Olmstead (Mardeen); and his twin brother, Bob Olmstead (Kathleen). Bill was uncle to Jeff Olmstead (Summer), Ann Olmstead Weber (John), Blair Olmstead (Fiona), Bradley Olmstead (Holly) and Elizabeth Olmstead. Bill was great-uncle to Allie Rose, Charlie, Jeb, JW, Matthew, Brody, Wesley, Madelyn, Olivia and Kaiden. Bill is also survived by his good friend, William Weston and his wife, Margaret of Guthrie, Okla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Bill's honor to the American Cancer Society.
Bill's family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and doctors of Baptist Integris Hospital, 4th Floor East in Oklahoma City, caretakers at the Brookhaven Extended Care in Norman, and the staff at Valir Hospice who cared for Bill in his final days.
