Jeannie Miano

Events

Jeannie Miano (nee Strom) went home peacefully to be with the Lord, July 8, 2019. She was the second of five children of John and Margaret Strom (nee Ruff): Jerome (Patricia), Meta Ann, Margaret, and Chris. Her love of music began at age five. She played the church organ in Canandaigua, N.Y., from the age of eleven. Classically trained in piano, she also grew up playing the flute and oboe.
Jeannie graduated from The Academy of the Sacred Heart in Rochester, N.Y. Upon graduating from Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y. (formerly Rosary Hill College), she commenced her teaching career in Cheektowaga, N.Y.
Jeannie married Laurence J. "Larry" Miano on Aug. 27, 1966, and they had four children and six grandchildren from their 39-year marriage. Jeannie's family was the wellspring of her life: Christopher and Dorothy Miano, and their two daughters, Margaret Alexandra and Victoria; Matthew and Dona Miano, and their daughter, Elizabeth; Holly Miano; Margaret and Jeremy Aston, and their daughters, Laurel and Avery.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence in 2006 and her grandson, Xavier Sawyer Miano.
Jeannie taught music at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School in Edmond, Okla., for 16 years and touched the lives of thousands of students. Her most memorable teaching accomplishments were winning the National Oscar Mayer Jingle competition with a select group of her students and being selected to the Who's Who of America's Teachers.

Jeannie was my Oklahoma mom for a while. She was a pleasure to be around and treated me as her own. I will always be grateful to the Miano family. The Ozmer family extends our condolences. God bless.

Jeannie was such a sweet lady that had so much energy to try new things. I remember when she wrote our school song and the 1996 graduating class sang it before graduation “Red is the color that binds us together...to God always true!” We still have that last phase on the wall in our gym today at St. Elizabeth’s. Many, many students and staff hold a special place in their hearts for this gem of a lady. May she Rest In Peace.

My two girls were not the most musical but Jeannie kept it so much fun for all the kids. She always had all kinds of little instruments that any of them could pick up and play. She was such a wonderful lady and teacher. She gave them so many great memories.

Mrs Miano had such a loving gentle heart. While working with her at SEAS, she was always filled with a loving positive attitude. She made an impact on my life and so many lives of the students she taught. We were blessed to have her teach our children. 💕

I met Jeannie before our family moved into our Edmond home. She and another neighbor were waiting on our driveway on moving day to welcome us. Surprised that she knew the correct date, she responded that she had called our realtor. We were friends for 22 years from that moment on. So many happy memories!

Jeannie was a huge part of my life for many years, and a better woman would be hard to find. My memories are music, laughter, and the smell of brajioli in her kitchen. She will be missed.
