Donald Francis Nowak
Donald "Don" Francis Nowak, 90, of Edmond, Okla., went to be with his Savior on Nov. 6, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Gorham, Kan., to John Nowak and Mary (Rusch) Nowak.
Don graduated from Gorham High School in 1946. Following his graduation, Don served for two years as a gunner on the 105 Howitzer in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the 933rd FA BN and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.
In 1953 Don married the love of his life, Mary Catherine Rajewski and was blessed with six children. After living in many locations, the couple moved to the Edmond, Okla., area in 1974.
Don worked as a petroleum engineer for numerous companies, Shenandah Oil and Tenneco Oil, retiring in 1988.
He was active in St. Johns Catholic Church where he participated in daily Mass. He was active in the Time-Out program, the Kennagers and the Knights of Columbus. Don was also a member of the VFW and the DAV. He always maintained a great attitude and a positive outlook. His legacy of kindness and generosity will live on through the lives of his family and those who knew him.
Don is survived by his children, Ruth and David Phelps of Sapulpa, Okla.; Lynn and Dyanna Nowak of Hot Springs, Ark.; Duane and Kim Nowak of Moore, Okla.; Dennis and Sarah Nowak of Fulshear, Texas and Phil and Julie Nowak of Stillwater, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Nowak and their daughter, Donna Nowak.
A wake is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Don's life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond.
Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan House and/or to the DAV.

We will always remember Uncle Don's sense of humor and how he loved to make people laugh. He obviously had a great love for his family and country! Praying that the family will be comforted with God's love and peace during this time of loss.
