Dean Carlyle Alexander
Dean Carlyle Alexander was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Konawa, Okla. He played football at Oklahoma State University starting in 1963. At OSU, Dean also played baseball, was a member of the Air Force ROTC, the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and the Arnold Air Society.
Upon graduating OSU in 1968 with an Aeronautical Engineering degree, Dean immediately enlisted in the United State Air Force.
Dean's highly decorated service to the United States spanned 28 years. He flew in Vietnam and in support of Operation Desert Shield, flying 14 different types of aircraft over the course of his career. Near the end of Dean's military career, he worked in conjunction with the FAA. He was also a licensed air traffic controller, retiring as a Colonel in 1996.
Despite Dean's travels, he never missed the opportunity to volunteer as a senior counselor and athletic director at the American Legion Texas Boys State.
Dean had a second career spanning 13 years at the FAA. He worked in Washington D.C., Seattle, and Oklahoma City for the FAA Flight Standards Service Division as an aviation safety inspector. In 2011, Dean earned the Wright Brother's Master Pilot's Award, an honor achieved when a pilot has 50 years of flight experience with no accidents or incidents while flying.
Dean is survived by his wife, Cindy, of 13 years; his two brothers, Alan (Lynn) and James (Sherri); four children, Denny, Drew (Shannon), Anna (CDR Jason Walker), and Robert Smith. Dean is also survived by eight grandchildren.
