Wanda Jean (Richardson) Manderscheid, 87, longtime resident of Edmond, Okla., was born July 16, 1929 in Rocky, Okla., to parents Josie (Knight) and W. Cecil Richardson. She passed away at home on September 9, 2016.
She eloped with her high school sweetheart, best friend, and love of her life, Dean Manderscheid, to Chicago on May 17, 1950. They had been married for 63 years until his death in 2013. They raised two children together, living in Tulsa and Edmond, Okla.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by a sister in Florida and both of her daughters, Melba and husband, Greg Prior, and Gayl Canfield; former son-in-law, Steven Canfield, and her loving friend and caregiver, Catonya Cosper.
Wanda was an active volunteer; most notably for the Operation Reindeer program that started while she was serving on the board of the Mental Health Association representing The Oklahoma Home & Community Education (OHCE). Christmas stockings were made by Oklahoma homemakers and filled and delivered by the Mental Health Association to hospitals and mental health centers. This program has been in operation for over 30 years and has expanded to include other organizations including Grand-parents Raising Grand-children in which the Triad Organiza-tion, sponsored by the Oklahoma County Sheriff, fill the stockings and are distributed at an annual Christmas party. Stockings are also made for veterans at the VA Medical Center in OKC and the OHCE military committee fills and delivers these stockings at Christmas.
Wanda was a member of Santa Fe Presbyterian Church in Edmond and had served as a deacon. She was a master gardener with the OSU Extension Center and a judge at several county fairs. She was a member of the Oklahoma Home & Community Education, Oklahoma Horticulture Society, Oklahoma Mineral and Gem Society, and Oklahoma County Triad and many others.
Wanda's life will be celebrated in a service at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 16, at Memorial Park Historic Cemetery Chapel, with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
