Vernon Lee Smith, 61, of Edmond, Okla., passed away Friday, December 11, 2015. He was born November 7, 1954, to Calvin and Virginia Smith. He grew up in Del City before moving to Edmond 29 years ago. He was happily married to his wife, Sally Smith, for 30 years. They have two sons and a daughter. He was preceded in death by his father Calvin Smith, and brother Alan Smith. He is survived by his mother Virginia Smith; wife Sally Smith; sister Jennifer McReynolds and her husband Mike; brother Larry Smith and his wife Paula; son Shay Smith, his wife Shareen, and their son Calvin; son Jacob Smith; daughter Savannah Smith; step-daughter Amber Bell; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his much beloved dog Coco. Vernon could light up any room with his sense of humor and fascinating stories. He was a proud member of the Edmond Santa Fe High School Touchdown Club, where both his sons played football. He remained an active member until his passing. He was ˜Mr. Fix It,” and always went out of his way to help family, friends, and neighbors if something was in need of repair. He loved Jimmy Buffett music and relaxing in the tropical oasis he created in his backyard. He was an avid University of Oklahoma Sooners Football fan as well as an OKC Thunder fan. He cherished his grandson who describes him as “the best grandpa.” All who knew Vernon loved him, and he will be dearly missed. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 14, at Crawford Family Funeral, 610 NW 178th, Edmond. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, at Gracelawn Cemetery, NW corner of Boulevard and Danforth Road, Edmond. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. at Meadowood Baptist Church, 2816 N. Woodcrest Drive, Midwest City, Okla.
