Sylvia's Story

Sylvia Grace Crum Cook, at age 96, went to be with her Lord February 29, 2016. She was born in Oklahoma City on March 18, 1919, to Howard and Blanche Crum. Her first nine years were spent in the Oklahoma Panhandle before moving to Oklahoma City and attending school at Pleasant Hill and Central High. She married Ray C. Cook who preceded her in death in 1982. This union was blessed by two sons, Charles Ray (deceased) and Robert Howard and wife Karen of Springfield, Mo., and a daughter, Charlene Haddock of Edmond, Okla. She has lived in the Deer Creek community maintaining a farm for 74 years. She supported the community including the school, 4-H Club, Edmond Home Demonstration Club, and Helping One Another Club. She was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, volunteer coordinator and judge at OK County Fair, and was a long term and dedicated member of Bethel Community Church. She enjoyed traveling abroad and with her family. Sylvia is known for her many accomplishments: sewing, gardening, canning, and baking. Her apple pie won 1st place in OK County Fair for two years along with other entries. She was employed at Jondine’s Drapery Shop of Edmond for many years. Our family matriarch will be missed by grandson, Mike Haddock and wife Mikey, children Charlie, Jordan, Jessica, Whitney, and Grace; grandson Steven Haddock and wife Kimberly, children Julia and Jerrod; grandson, Brian Cook and wife Heather, children Ethan, Brennan, and Lachlan; granddaughter Tami Lewis; brother, Alvin Crum and wife Norma; nephews Howard, Charles, and Darrel (deceased); brother, Arden Crum and wife Thelma Lee; niece Dee Land (deceased), great nephew, Proctor Land; as well as a cousin, Mary Alice Foster. Viewing times will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond. A service celebrating Sylvia’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, at Bethel Community Church, Edmond.
