Stanley Ronald "Ron" Darnell was born February 15, 1943 and passed away at the age of 74 on June 24, 2017.
Ron was born in Rapid City, S.D., to Fred Ennis and Juliet Emilie Flora Kolster Darnell while his father was in the military. Ron attended elementary school in Dover, Mo., and graduated from high school in Lexington, Mo. His senior year football team went undefeated and was recently inducted into the Minuteman Athletic Hall of Fame. Rather than pursue a scholarship in football, Ron followed his high school sweetheart to Central Missouri State College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree on August 15, 1964.
He and his family called Mexico, Mo. home for many years. He was a livestock broker, primarily buying and selling hogs for Swift and Company. His passion was caring for his 40-acre farm. He served as president of the Mexico JayCees and was an active member for many years. He and his wife were long time members of a close-knit bridge club. The members came to be as close as family.
Fifteen years ago Ron and Sandra retired to Edmond, Okla. to be close to their daughters and their two grandchildren. His granddaughter and grandson were the joys of his life. During those years he made many new friends. He was very active in the Edmond Senior Center. He had been president of the advisory board and was currently serving in that position. He encouraged the center to offer archery lessons and donated money and equipment to start the program. He served tea and meals for the senior lunch program. He tried to meet every new member of the center to make them welcome. He was always ready to help members and staff in any way he could.
Ron loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was an avid bow hunter. In the spring he enjoyed hunting and cooking mushrooms. He believed that Missouri tomatoes made the best BLTs and steaks and pork chops were best grilled at home. He loved Missouri wild flowers and planted and cultivated bluebells, sweet William, trillium, italicum, may apples, and jack-in-a-pulpit, just to name a few.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Juliet, and by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Pointer Darnell, mother of his daughters.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Smith Darnell; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Tim Linville; daughter, Kara Darnell; granddaughter, Claire Linville; grandson and best buddy, Grant Linville; sister and brother-in-law Chyree and Joe de Roode; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Steve Terry; sister, Norita Sill; stepdaughter and husband, Leanna and Eric Bosarge and their daughters, Kaitlynn and Mallory; nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends from the Lexington, Mo. area, Mexico Mo. area and Edmond, Okla.
In lieu of cards and flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Edmond Senior Center lunch program.
