Ryan's Story

Text size

Ryan Norris Veirs, 37, passed away June 16, 2016. He was born February 8, 1979 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Ryan was raised in Edmond, Okla., where he graduated from Edmond North High School in 1997. After graduation, Ryan attended Oklahoma State University where he was a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, in which he served as the pledge class president. He graduated from OSU in 2001, with a Bachelor degree in Science in Business Administration and Management Information Systems.
During his career, Ryan was employed by Chesapeake Energy Corporation for 10 years where he served as their security engineer specialist and attained his CISSP certification. He thrived in his job and was proud to work for such a great company.
Ryan was an incredibly loving husband. He and Lori were married for just over 13 years as the two were united on April 5, 2003 at Crown Heights Christian Church in Oklahoma City. Ryan was a wonderful dad. He and Lori have two boys, Karsten (age 9) and Kade (age 6). His personality was infectious which made him a friend to many! These relationships were developed in childhood, high school, college and extended to work, Henderson Hills Baptist Church, neighbors and beyond. In recent years, these strong bonds became more evident to all, as these friends supported Ryan and Lori.
Ryan enjoyed a wide variety of sports. However, ice-hockey and golf were his favorites. Ryan participated in intramural sports at Chesapeake and also participated in skeet shooting and camping with his two sons, Karsten and Kade. Ryan's love for music was evident as he played the guitar, piano and enjoyed singing.
During Ryan's four year battle, he became our inspiration: His faith in God, His love for his family, His resolve to fight, His peace. We know now, God has healed Ryan in heaven. For Karsten and Kade, their Daddy will always be watching over them. So many great stories we'll share, memories for a lifetime. Ryan will always be our champion.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Lori; sons, Karsten and Kade; parents George and Darla Veirs of Edmond; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Kathy Miller of Edmond. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Shannon Frye and husband Scott; his brother-in-law, Chad Miller and wife Cassie, as well as his nieces and nephews, Brendon, Katelyn, Ethan, Avery, and Ryan.
A come-and-go visitation and reception was 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, at Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond.
A service celebrating Ryan's life was 2 p.m. on Monday, June 20, at First Presbyterian Church in Edmond.
Wear a splash of orange for Ryan's love of OSU. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Ryan Veirs Memorial Fund, at any Bank of Oklahoma location.
