Pauline's Story

Text size

Pauline Deason Hutson, born January 11, 1930, in Clinton, Ark., departed this life on November 11, 2015, to join her Lord and those friends and family who had been waiting for her. Even while suffering from cancer and other ailments, she remained a shining example of strength, love, and courage for all who knew her. Her desire in life was to make a positive difference in other people’s lives as was evident in the jobs she chose --- a mother, a teacher, a director of hospital volunteers, a director of a foundation for college youth, a field director for an organization for mentally impaired children. In her confinement due to her health, she continued to send greeting cards to everyone to wish them happy birthday, to encourage them to get well, to let them know always that she was praying for them. Even in her death, she chose to help others by donating her body for scientific research. She loved teaching with a passion and valued each student as an individual, encouraging each of them to reach a realistic potential in his life. She loved hosting dinners, bridge club, Sunday school parties, supper club, and preparing lavish and beautifully set tables for home-cooked dinners for family and friends, who were too numerous to count. Her love for a beautiful yard and gardens of flowers was, as she put it, “a way to share God’s beauty with others.” Her sharing of God’s beauty was furthered in her travels through the years with her siblings, husband, parents, and children. She loved being with her family and friends and was active in KKI, Red Hatters, and the First United Methodist Church in Edmond, Okla. She loved people and was a dear friend to many who will miss her engaging smile, her willingness to share her life experiences and to listen to their problems, and her deep faith in the Lord. She spent most of her childhood in Borger, Texas, and then attended WTSU in Canyon and the University of Texas in Austin where she started dating and eventually married her husband, Truman Wayne Hutson on August 24, 1949. She and Wayne lived in Edmond, Oklahoma, for more than 37 years, after having lived in Amarillo and Perryton, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Grace Deason; a son, Rick Stephen Hutson; and her sister, Patsy Ruth Bryan. She is survived by her husband of over 66 years, Truman Wayne Hutson; son, Gregg Hutson and wife, Carmen; son, Stacy Hutson and wife, Marsha; daughter, Marta Stine and husband, Rick; son, Rigg Hutson; brother, Milton Deason and wife, Pat; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held for her at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 16, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Edmond, Okla. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Edmond or Skyline Urban Ministry in Oklahoma City.
