Patricia's Story

Text size

Patricia Ann Corbell Hoig was born in Okmulgee, Okla. on November 28, 1931 and passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. She grew up in Okmulgee and attended Oklahoma A&M College where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 1953. Shortly before graduating, she married the love of her life, Stanley W. Hoig, and upon graduation, moved to Tulsa, Okla. where their son Mel was born in 1955. In 1956 they moved to Houston, where they added Lisa and Brent to the family.
Upon moving back to Oklahoma in 1964, Pat taught at various elementary schools in the metro area, predominantly in the Edmond Public School District. She never felt that she worked for a living because she loved her job teaching elementary students to sing and develop a love for music that she hoped would last a lifetime.
Pat retired in 1987 and worked with Stan as he followed his passion of researching and writing historical nonfiction books, publishing 26 in total over the span of 51 years. Stan's accomplishments were not his alone; Pat tirelessly typed, proofread, and assisted in the completion of every manuscript written by Stan.
Pat's passions included her husband, of course, and her children and grandchildren. She loved to sing and sew, and found her greatest joy in being with her four older sisters, their families, and her husband, children, and grandchildren. Pat welcomed all visitors into her home and once introduced, they also became family; she became mother or grandmother to any and all.
She is survived by her sons Mel and Brent of Edmond, Okla.; daughter, Lisa Provenzano and husband Anthony of Edmond; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pat is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley; her four sisters, Martha, Ruth, Helen, and Betty; nieces Jackie and Judy.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Edmond, OK.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the UCO Foundation, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, or the charity of your choice.
Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.
