Leonard's Story

Text size

Leonard "Soapy" Earl Simpson, age 80, passed away suddenly in his home on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Carolyn (Davis) Simpson; his daughter, Kelly Bristow; his son, Brad Simpson; his son and daughter-in-law, Dooley and Tammy Simpson; his son, Jamey Simpson; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and countless family and friends.
Born on the family farm during a dust storm, youngest of nine to John and Selma Simpson, Leonard lived most of his life north of Edmond. He attended Edmond High School, where he earned his nickname Soapy as a baseball pitcher. After graduating in 1956, he worked various jobs and managed full service gas stations before owning and operating the Biscuit Basket and then becoming a brick and tile mason and general contractor.
When he retired, Leonard and Carolyn moved to the lake. There he planted a vegetable garden every spring, fished often, watched basketball and football games religiously, began a book about Jesus's free gift of salvation, and witnessed to all who would listen.
Leonard Simpson was a faithful, loving husband and father and an honest, spiritual man. He is already missed.
