Text size

Kenneth Dean Ward died unexpectedly and peacefully at his home in Edmond, Okla. on February 24, 2017 at the age of 73. Ken was born to Ora Alberta and John Larkin Ward in Borger, Texas on September 12, 1943.
Ken graduated from Edmond High School in 1961. He earned a degree in mathematics with a focus in computer science from UCO (Central State) in 1971. Highly skilled in coding and problem-solving, Ken developed a career as a computer systems analyst. Much of his work specialized in optimization and routing for trucking companies, and his program designs continue to impact his field.
Ken's many joys and talents displayed his kind, gentle spirit driven by intellect and curiosity. As an avid skier, he enjoyed traveling with the OKC Ski Club and competing in amateur races. Known by many for his mastery of the harmonica, Ken's early affinity for music carried throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of the First Unitarian Church choir, active in the Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association, and ready to collaborate with anyone who wanted to jam. Ken was proud of his family and delighted in being a grandfather.
Ken is predeceased by his mother and father, and brother Zelan Dean.
He is survived by his wife Terry, son Nicholas and daughter Brooke; former wife Marilyn Fulk, their son Derek Ward and daughter Kenna Geisler of Juns, Austria (husband Andreas and children Jonas, Lorenz and Lennox); sister Carolyn Wilcox; nephews Drew and Alex Wilcox; numerous cousins and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at First Unitarian Church, 600 NW 13th St, OKC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Unitarian Church Endowment or Music Fund, or Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association.
