James Joseph Doherty, 84, of Edmond, Okla., died Christmas Eve morning, December 24, 2015. A wake service and rosary will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 29 at Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond. A funeral mass will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, December 30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, followed by burial at 1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton. James was born July 6, 1931 in Quincy, Mass. He graduated from Boston College with a BA in Accounting. James married Patricia Bernadette Campbell on January 2, 1955 in Wollaston, Mass. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for 20 years retiring as a LTC, then worked for a bank, taught accounting at Cameron University in Lawton and owned an accounting business. James was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1987 and served for 29 years, most recently at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond. Survivors include his daughter Sheila M. Duhon of The Woodlands, Texas; son James J. Doherty, Jr. of Edmond; sister Geraldine Welch of Massachusetts; brother Richard Doherty of Massachusetts; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Doherty; one brother, one son and one grandchild.
