Elmer John "EJ" Gales was born January 6, 1933 to John and Elizabeth Gales in Okarche, Okla. On October 11, 2016 he passed into the loving arms of Jesus, peacefully at home at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer.
Elmer grew up in a loving home with his four sisters, Helen, Anita, Kay and Mary Lu. He graduated from Holy Trinity high school in 1950. He proudly served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. After the war, he attended Phillips University in Enid, graduating in 1959 with a degree in accounting. During that time, he met Mary Harding and they fell in love, got married and began their family. Their union produced four children, Ronald Wayne, Pamela Susan, Lori Anne and Sandra Katherine (Kay) Gales.
Upon graduation, he was immediately employed by TG&Y and held many positions, ultimately retiring as the Comptroller of Accounts Payable. During his time at TG&Y, he met his second love, Charlotte Davenport. They were married in 1984 and Elmer was lovingly welcomed into her close knit family.
During Elmer and Charlotte's 32 years together, they enjoying spending time at their house at Lake Eufaula with friends and family, traveling extensively to places like Alaska, Branson, Canada via the Trans Canada Rail Odyssey 11-day journey, Panama Canal cruise, enjoyed playing in bridge club, square dancing and most of all being with the family they loved. He was an avid outdoorsman and grew up loving and playing most sports. While at TG&Y, he excelled playing on their softball team while also earning many high scores on their bowling team. He was the happiest when he was outside, working on their pristine, beautiful yard. His yard was often the talk and envy of the neighbors where they lived.
