Armenta Wyant Wight, 86, was born in Turkey, Texas, October 11, 1929, to Claude Bailey and Minnie Alois (Wood) Wyant, the first of five children. She passed from this life on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Armenta and her siblings graduated from Middleberg High School, near Blanchard. Armenta graduated from Central State College with a BA degree. Later she received her Master’s degree in Education. She taught school in McAllen and Gustine, Texas, and Las Animas, Colo., where she met her future husband, Joe Wight. They were married in 1954, moving to Edmond, Okla., in 1958. Armenta taught at Millwood for 26 years, while Joe went to college, and then became a a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office. Armenta retired from teaching in 1984, and Joe retired in 1992. After retirement they became very active with the senior bowling leagues where Armenta bowled and became secretary for the league. She worked with the seniors until 2012, when she became ill. Armenta was blessed with two children, Robert Lee Wight and Jo Ann Wight McCathern. Armenta was predeceased by her husband, Joe; her parents, and one brother, Jerry Cecil Wyant. She is survived by son Robert; daughter Jo Ann and husband Tim; grandson Jarrod Conaway; granddaughter Claudia Wight; brothers George Bailey Wyant of Oklahoma City, and Billy Ray Wyant and wife Shirley of Chickasha, sister Lois W. Westan Riggan of Piedmont, brother-in-law Ray Wight, sister-in-law Helen Ramsey, both of Las Animas, Colo., and numerous other relatives and friends. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 29, at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond.
