Wesley Earl Listen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2019, and is now with his Heavenly Father. Wes was a lifelong resident of Edmond, Okla. He was born on September 2, 1939. Wes was the sixth child of eight, born to Carl and Doris Listen.
He met the love of his life, Carrie Evelyn Sparks, and on July 21, 1962, the couple were married at the First Christian Church of Edmond. To this union, two children were born, Jeffery Earl and Kimberly Reneé, both of Edmond.
Wes served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960, where he was stationed in Germany, serving as a track-vehicle mechanic. After the Army, Wes began work as a finish carpenter and shortly thereafter, a self-employed long-haul truck driver for 43 years.
Since 1969, Wes and Carrie have been members of the Edmond Pentecostal Holiness Church (now Heritage Fellowship). Wes loved the Lord, and his family and friends. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed all things U.S. military, especially the Civil War. When home from trucking, Wes could often be found "having a cup" (of coffee) at Denny's restaurant.
He leaves behind his wife, Carrie Evelyn of the home; daughter, Kim Listen; son, Jeff Listen; grandsons, Colin and Carson Garder of Edmond; sister, Dorothy Loveless and her husband, Bob; three brothers, Wayne and his wife, Betty, Herbert and his wife, Wilma, and Darrell, all of Edmond; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Wes is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Doris, and his siblings, Vernon Listen, Jean Daniels, and Louis Listen.
