Wanda Lenora Foley, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, October 16, 2016.
She is survived by her sons, Hugh (MaryAnn), Chuck, and Tim; granddaughters, Mary Butler (Jim) and Jennifer Foley; and great-granddaughter Elizabeth "Libby" Grace Butler.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Griffin H. Foley, her parents, and her brothers.
Wanda was born in Caney, Okla., where she grew up and completed her education. After high school graduation, she sought employment in Oklahoma City where she worked as an office professional for several major corporations. It was through her work that she met Griff; they married on February 7, 1948. The family primarily lived in the Oklahoma City area, although 15 or so years were spent on Long Island, NY.
She devoted much of her life to creating a warm, welcoming, loving home for her family and friends. Wanda was a skilled cook who made many dishes from scratch, combining the country cooking of her family with the Italian recipes from Griff's family. Her slow cooked marinara sauce used in lasagna, homemade pizza and baked chicken were family favorites for holidays and special occasions. Wanda was generous in sharing her recipes and methods of cooking with her daughters-in-law and granddaughters. Her sincere southern hospitality will be missed by those who knew her and spent time in her home.
Wanda never met a stranger and could quickly befriend anyone she encountered from those who sat around her at Mass to servers at restaurants. Wanda had a special sensitivity and concern for the struggles of her friends and was always there to support them. A fan of hand-written correspondence, it was always a special day when a card or letter with Wanda's elegant handwriting appeared in the mail to cheer you up or celebrate achievements. The legacy of her love, kindness, and unique understanding will be carried on through the lives of those she touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Wanda's life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ninth & Boulevard in Edmond. Visitation is Thursday, October 20th from 7-8 p.m. at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 S. Broadway in Edmond.
