Longtime Wewoka, Okla. resident Wanda Faye Adkins departed this life on Sunday, October 29, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the age of 87 years. She was born January 3, 1930 in Waurika, Okla. to the late Raymer Rolin Qualls and Mary Leola Sanderson Qualls.
Wanda was a graduate of Waurika High School. She married Winfred Doyle "Pete" Adkins January 18, 1947 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She worked for Edna Looney Products as a designer for over 30 years.
Mrs. Adkins was very active in the Wewoka Community. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she served on the Women Mission Program, The Larkspur Club, Daisy Garden Club, Cookie Club, volunteer for the Seminole Nation Museum, served as chairwomen for Enchanting Evening, Girl Scouts, Campfire, Ever Ready Women, and served as Rainbow Mom. Her hobbies were painting, making ceramics, cooking, baking, sewing, and playing cards. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was well known for always doing for others.
Preceding Wanda in death are her parents, husband Winfred Doyle "Pete" Adkins, one infant daughter Angela and special son A.H. Shi, brother Jerry Qualls and his wife Beaulah, brother-in-law Ed Bookout, nephew Jeff Bookout, niece Terri Corbin, Wilton "A D" and Polly Adkins, Nelda Martin, Dennis Adkins and Bennie Wayne Adkins.
Survivors include three daughters Linda Crittenden and husband Mickey, of Edmond, Okla., Nancy Hobgood of Edmond, Okla., Lisa Lee and husband Tommy of Weleetka, Okla. and Carol Shi of Seminole, Okla.; grand-children Cari Crittenden, Cathy Crittenden Byers, Lanceon Hobgood, Jamalyn Hobgood of Edmond, Okla., Mallarie and John Blackford of Trumann, Ark., Alissa Lee of Weleetka, Okla., Jack and Jennifer Shi of Ninnekah, Okla., Ann Marie Shi of Norman, Okla., and Andrew Foster Shi of San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandchildren Ricky and Shay Crittenden, Kaela, Kaden, Kamber and Joey Byers of Edmond, Okla.; Zackery Hobgood of Oklahoma City, Okla., Taylor Hobgood of Denver, Colo., Gunner McHohe of Edmond, Okla., Roslyn Blackford of Trumann, Ark., Jarrett and Jude Shi of Ninnekah, Okla.; siblings Mildred and George Barfield of Andrew, Texas, Joe Qualls of Hastings, Okla., Charlene Bookout of Hasting, Okla., Rosa Lee Keethler of Wichita Falls, Texas, Bennie Gene and Mary Nell Adkins of Opelika Ala., Gerrol and June Adkins of Weleetka, Okla., Don and Sue Adkins of Duncan, Okla. and Jim and Katie Adkins of Weleetka, Okla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Adkins family will receive friends and family 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Wewoka, with Pastor Chris Baker officiating and burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
