T. J. "Murph" Murphy passed away at dawn on July 1, 2017 at the age of 87 with family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus "Coot" Murphy and Georgia Murphy. T.J. Murphy was born in Sandyland, Ark. He was raised in south Arkansas during the rough years of the Depression. He graduated from Bearden High School in 1948 and was captain of the football team.
Murph began college on a football scholarship and was drafted to fight in Korea where he built bridges and roads for the Army Corps of Engineers. After he returned from Korea with Purple Heart honors, he enrolled in Oklahoma State University obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering.
At college, Murph met, married and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lynne Whatoff of Edmond, Okla.; their three children: Gina Holtz and her husband Gene of Edmond, son Sean Murphy and his wife Samira of Edmond, and daughter, Erin Schultz and her husband Mark of Reston, Va.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Murph loved to help people and rescue animals.
