Reuben Ray “Pete” Riley passed away on December 31, 2015, at the age of 68 years, after a heroic battle with cancer. Pete was born on January 24, 1947 in Cox City, Okla., to Gladys (Snow) and Reuben Russell Riley. He graduated from Comanche High School in 1965 then joined and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict. He attended the University of Central Oklahoma, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Education. He married Mary Ellen Hays on January 24, 1968 in Healdton, Okla. Pete worked for USF&G Insurance Company as a loss control and safety representative for 20-plus years before starting a new career for the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 15 years. Pete enjoyed gardening, traveling, and family. He loved fixing things, working on projects, and rebuilding old cars. Pete is survived by his wife and best friend Mary Riley. He is also survived by four brothers: William Riley and wife Joy of Lindsay, Okla, Lee Roy Riley and wife Sue of Chickasha, Okla., Johnny Riley and wife Reta of Chickasha, Mike Riley and wife Zoa of Duncan, Okla.; two sisters, Gladys Justus and husband William of Marlow, Okla., and Mary Jane David of Marlow, Okla.; extended family members, Tommy and Brenda Young of Comanche, Okla; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors, including Beth Sawyer and Nancy Gravel. Pete was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gladys and Reuben Russell Riley, of Rush Springs, Okla. and an infant brother, Luther Riley. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
