Major (Ret.) Robert's Story
Bob was born June 5, 1940 in Winston-Salem, N.C. He died October 9, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Bob proudly served in the US Air Force for 23 years. He flew the F-100 in Vietnam and also served as a forward air controller in the 0-1. His last assignment at Tinker AFB was as a A-7 test pilot. Some of the metals he was awarded were Distinguished Flying Cross, Well Done Award and Vietnam Service award.
Bob graduated from Lake Forest Academy, Lake Forest, Ill . He graduated from University of Denver and received a masters degree from Pepperdine University.
Bob excelled in any sport he participated in including hockey, golf, skiing, baseball, Formula Ford racing and drag racing.
He loved to hunt deer, elk, ducks, quail and pheasant all over the world. Fishing was another passion. Deep sea fishing in the Cayman Islands, Peacock bass fishing in Brazil, black bass all over OK.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Robert L. and Ethel Ralston Finkenstaedt and sister Margaret Nadine Finkenstaedt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Ann Bird Finkenstaedt; sons Jeffrey Robert and wife Daphne of Jenks, Okla. and Scott Andrew Finkenstaedt of OKC; six grandchildren, Rachel Dawn of Memphis, Tenn., Mallory Ann and Laurel Renae Finkenstaedt of Jenks, Okla. Jacob (Jake), Brooke and Jack Bachelder of Jenks, Okla.
Funeral was held October 14, 2017 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Edmond/North OKC. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery with full Military Honors.
