Loran's Story

Loran Odell Shoemaker was born July 7, 1921 in Delaware, Ark., to Lonnie and Etta Shoemaker. He passed away in Wichita, Kan., on December 14.
Loran's family moved to Oklahoma City in the early 1930's. Loran graduated from Capitol Hill High School, and served in the US Navy in World War II. He married Hazel Florine Knight in 1949. He was a civilian employee at Tinker Field Air Force base for 25 years. In retirement, he enjoyed Bible study, serving his church congregation as an elder and Bible class teacher, and raising a large garden.
He was predeceased by wife Hazel in 2013; he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Gayle and Rick Southerland and Lorana and Don Johnson, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 19, at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Brian Lemons Memorial Hospital, (Nhowe Mission, Zimbabwe, Africa) c/o East Point Church of Christ, 747 N. 127 St., Wichita, KS 67206.
