Justin Thayer Houts

Today we honor Justin Thayer Houts who passed away on April 26, 2019. Justin was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., on September 5, 1973, to James Thayer Houts, Jr. and Linda Kay Moore. Justin graduated from Edmond Memorial High School and Oklahoma State University. He was a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity where he forged lifelong friendships. He enjoyed sports especially golf and basketball.
Justin was preceded in death by his father, Jim Houts.
He is survived by his sons, Franklin Thayer Houts and Griffin Bruce Houts and step daughter Hannah Beeson; mother, Linda Moore and stepfather Brad Moore; sister, Courtney Voight and husband, Erik; stepmother, Donell Houts; stepbrother, Cory Listen and wife, Masey; and four nieces, Ellee Listen, Avery Voight, Lainey Voight, and Hallie Voight.
Justin was uncommonly intentional. He was thoughtful and always was thinking of his family and friends with kind words and thoughtful gifts. Justin never spent any time complaining and never spoke harsh words towards anybody. Friends will always remember him for his infectious smile.
Justin was extremely loyal to his family and all of his many good friends, but Justin's pride and joy and focus of his life were his two sons, Franklin and Griffin, who he enjoyed spending as much time with as possible.
Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday May 1, 2019, at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, Edmond, Okla.

Words cannot express how I feel! I am in total shock over this. Just found out May 14, 2019. I met Justin when he was 16 or 17 mowing Oklahoma County Farm Bureau yard with Brook Collier. And he has been my insurance agent ever since he began in the business. I could always just pickup the phone and call him for anything. It was always just like old times at OFB. I am so sad for your loss. Justin was the most considerate, humble, patient man I have ever met. And I truly adored him. His children and all family friends he left I will have you in my thoughts and prayers. I pray the Lord give you all peace and comfort in this of need.

I don’t know what to say. I’m so saddened by this. I feel terrible for Hannah and the boys. And for Leah, who must be hurting for her children, more than for herself. I’m thinking of you all. And prayers are being said for Justin and all of his family. Love you guys.

I’ll keep you all in my prayers. While I didn’t know him, I can tell he had a wonderful spirit and inspired all that knew him.
God bless and keep you all.

I'm so sad to hear of Justin's passing. I went through school with him and will always remember him as being genuinely kind, sweet, and funny. His laugh was warm and his smile was charming. May you be comforted by many memories of him, and know that he will live in your hearts always.

Justin was a high school friend and I haven't seen or spoken to him in many years. We'd hang out cheering on our Bulldog basketball teams and always got excited when the US Open tennis tournament started right around the time that school started back.

I'll remember his humble and calm demeanor and for always being a loyal friend during our days at EMHS.

I'm praying that the Lord provides his family strength, peace, and comfort. I'm especially praying for his two boys and the difficult days when they miss their dad.
