Joseph's Story

Text size

The full and well lived life of Joseph William Licata of Little River, S.C., ended peacefully on November 3rd, 2015. In his last days he was surrounded by those who loved him deeply and whose lives he had influenced in great measure. Born in New York City, Borough of the Bronx, the son of parents who were first generation Americans, he and his younger brother were raised in a tight knit family with humble beginnings. When a football scholarship brought him to the University of Connecticut he met Jane Wetherington, who later became his wife and best friend for almost 50 years. Joseph is survived by his two daughters, Gia Rose of Edmond, Okla., and Abby Arellano of McKinney, Texas. He gifted his daughters with much love and knowledge, as well as a belief that they could do anything in life they worked toward. In addition to his brother William Licata of Johns Creek, Georgia, he is survived by three grandsons, Eric Arellano, Bradly Rose and Joseph Rose. Joseph was a teacher his whole life. He was an avid story teller and used this medium to teach effectively. Earning his PhD in Educational Administration from Penn State University, he held positions at many major universities such as Ohio State, Louisiana State and Oklahoma State, as well as being widely published. Beginning his academic career as a professor, he later served as Department Chair, Associate Dean and Dean. Those who love and miss him will continue to celebrate his life and legacy. Services will be private. Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
