On July 24,2016, Jim's family accompanied him on his last journey as far as the threshold of heaven. Jim was born in Shawnee, Okla., the second son of Cleve and Nellie Devoe, and brother to Dick and Dana Devoe, all of whom went before him in death. He grew up in several oil towns in Oklahoma but considered Edmond home. Jim graduated from Edmond High School and attended Central State College.
Jim had a long career as a food broker. He proudly called himself one of Edmond's "original old dogs." If you knew him, you know he never met a stranger, forgot a face, or told the same story the same way.
Jim is survived by his wife Cheryl and children Erin Devoe, Heather Devoe, Seth Devoe and wife Angela. He was a proud grandfather of Hayden and Knox Devoe. Others left behind include sisters-in-law Glenda Devoe, Bobbye Stevens (Larry), brothers-in-law Michael Thomas (Cynthia) and Mark Thomas (Renee). He also leaves many nieces and nephews to whom he was known as either Uncle Duford or Uncle Dodo.
His memorial service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Memorial Road Mennonite Brethren Church where he was a long-time member. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mennonite Disaster Service. Jim wore out several chain saws while volunteering with MDS.
