After retirement in 1990, he helped his nephew Lyndle Byford manage the family farm. In 2002, he and his daughter, Lydia Ellen, began researching her book, "Dust Bowl Girls", that features the 1932 champion women's basketball team known as the Oklahoma Presbyterian College Cardinals. Meeting these champion basketball players inspired Jerry to advocate for their induction into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame as the first Oklahoma Team of Legend. Jerry was extraordinarily dedicated to his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty.
Jerry is survived by wife Lydia Lee; sister Jan; children Lydia Ellen, Robert, Rosalind, and David; seven grandchildren, Brianne, Taylor, Teaghan, Katharine, Darby, Grace, and Lucy, and two great grandchildren, Viviana and Samuel.
Services to celebrate his life will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 at Stonegate Presbyterian Church, Edmond.
