Jean Elizabeth Sudbury

Jean Sudbury passed away Aug. 6, 2018, following a prolonged illness. Jean was born in Austin, Texas, June 9, 1928 - the younger twin. Her mother died in her second year of life and the twins lived with their grandparents during the first part of the depression. Their father remarried and provided the family home when they were seven.
Jean attended the University of Texas and graduated with a bachelors degree. She married John D. Sudbury July 18, 1947. After John graduated, they moved to Ponca City, Okla. where John worked for Continental Oil Company. Their children, Byron, James, and Linda, were born in Ponca City. Jean and John were very active in the church and in the community and opened their home to all.
After 22 years in Ponca City, career advancement resulted in family moves to California, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Having taught crafts at summer church camps as well as giving private craft lessons in her studio, Jean expanded her interest owning and managing a large thriving craft store in Pennsylvania where she taught classes and sold supplies. Upon John's retirement Jean and John moved back to Texas and began new careers. There, Jean owned and managed three successful Hallmark store/gift shops.
Wherever they lived, Jean and John's life revolved around church and family. Their home was always open to others - church friends and those from the community, as well as out of town guests from around the world. They strongly supported Oklahoma Christian College beginning with their move to Ponca City. During their "post-retirement" years they very actively worked for Eastern European Mission and traveled the world helping to spread the Gospel.
Jean is survived by her twin sister Jane; son Byron; daughter Linda and Jim; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will celebrate Jean's life on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018. The 10 a.m. memorial service will be held in Scott Chapel at Oklahoma Christian University, Edmond, OK. A dual grave-side service for Jean and John will be Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Resthaven-Sunset Memorial Park in Ponca City, Okla.
