Henry J.  Pearce


Henry Johnson Pearce, beloved husband of the late Barbara, went to see his Lord and Savior on Christmas day, December 25, 2016. He was born to Arthur and Ruth Pearce on March 8, 1931 in Edmond, Okla.
He attended Edmond schools, Central State University and graduated from Oklahoma University school of Medicine in 1965.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ester Gilmore, Pat Jacobs, Dee Ray; brother, Newton Pearce; his wife of 62 years, Barbara Pearce and son, Robin Pearce.
Henry is survived by daughter, Cindy Daniel and husband Jeff; son, Scott Pearce; daughter, Laura Pearce-Sandmann and husband Steve of Coalgate, Okla; son, Jeffrey and his wife Tammy Pearce; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and sisters, Sarah Stults of Luther and Grace Thompson of Arcadia.
Dr. Pearce's parents owned part of Pearce and Strubel Paving Company, which paved the first roads in Edmond. Henry followed suit, partnering with other physicians in developing one of Edmond's first medical centers in Edmond.
Henry served in the US Air Force during the Berlin airlift and after serving, returned to Edmond and married Barbara Smith from Guthrie on June 24, 1950 at the First Baptist Church of Edmond. They started their family while operating "The Pearce's Flower Shop" from 1955 until 1970.
Dr. Pearce completed his surgical residence at OU in 1969 and started his practice in general and vascular surgery in Edmond and Oklahoma City. He practiced until the age of 81 during which he made a difference in so many lives. Some of Henry's hobbies had included golf, restoring old classic vehicles and was the owner of Arcadian Downs, a thoroughbred racing horse farm. He was a member of First Christian Church of Edmond. Above all, he was an incredible man, devoted to his profession and family and he will be missed dearly.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 29, at First Christian Church of Edmond, on East 2nd Street, Edmond, Okla. Visitation and a celebration of life will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, at the Memorial Park Historic Cemetery Chapel, 13313 North Kelly Avenue, Oklahoma City.
