Elgene Wayne Jacobs Elgene Wayne Jacobs "Jake", 68, of Edmond, Okla., passed away at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital on Aug. 1, 2018. Jake was born July 18, 1950, to Dick W. and Fern Feeken Jacobs in Adrian, Minn. He was married to Deanne Rae Hietbrink on Oct. 12, 1974 in Brookings, S.D.
Jake was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother of Jackson, Minn.; wife of the home; children, Bryan Jacobs, Richardson, Texas, and Kristen (Shane) Crawford, Edmond, Okla.; and six grandchildren, Matthew and Caroline Jacobs, Richardson, Texas, and Carrington, Jacob, Bryson, and Landon Crawford, Edmond, Okla. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn (David) Hansen, Lakefield, Minn.; mother and father-in-law, Bernard and Elaine Hietbrink, Bella Vista, Ark.; sisters-in-law, Beth (Charles) Curry, Decatur, Ill., Laura (Ross) Rames, Mount Pleasant, S.C., and brother-in-law, Bernard (Melissa) Hietbrink, Rockwall, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Jake graduated from Ellsworth High School in Minn.; South Dakota State University with a BS in Pharmacy; University of Iowa with a MS; and Purdue University with a PhD in Pharmacy Administration. He retired from the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy where he taught for 25 years and was honored as Professor Emeritus. He was also the pharmacy director for OSEEGIB for several years. Jake was instrumental in developing the American Drug Utilization Review Society (ADURS) of which he was the executive director until his death.
Jake enjoyed coaching basketball with both of his children while they were growing up. He also was very proud of his yard and spent hours with the flower beds and making sure the lawn was as green as it could be. Jake was a fan of OSU football, basketball, and Thunder basketball.
A very special thank you to all of the OK Heart Hospital staff for their kindness and compassion.
A memorial to celebrate Jake's life will be 10 a.m., Wednesday Aug. 8, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Edmond.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Stroke Association.
