Elaine's Story

Text size

Elaine Thompson was greeted at the gates of heaven with shouts of joy, Wednesday August 3, 2016, with the most beautiful smile of her son Loren who passed in 2004 and her broken heart is now healed. Elaine enjoyed being with her family first and foremost! She loved to garden, sew and make jewelry, and there was nothing that she couldn't do. Last summer she built a deck in her backyard! She had earned her associates degree in Criminal Justice in 1997 from Rose State College. Elaine married the love of her life, Carl Thompson, October 5, 1999.
Elaine was the glue that kept her family together. She moved to Oklahoma in 1979 and one by one, four of her nine siblings followed her. Her mother and father eventually moved from California to Oklahoma as well. Elaine had a huge heart and felt it was her purpose to love unconditionally, give the shirt off her back and care for her family. She cared for her momma during her last days while suffering with dementia. She did all of this without once complaining about it. Nobody ever left Elaine's house without a piece of jewelry she made, food from her kitchen or clothing that was hand sewn. She absolutely lived for her family. She loved to be loved and she loved all without condition. She seemed to have a deeper understanding of her mortality in these last few weeks as she constantly talked about and sought time to see as much of her family as possible with the precious little time she had remaining. There can be no doubt about her place in heaven among the family she has been longing to see in the afterlife and the gentle kiss of her savior Jesus Christ. We may mourn this loss, but we find comfort in know her Savior has his arms wrapped around her even now. As we mere humans selfishly long for her to come back, she wants everyone to know how much she loves all of you. She is happy and waiting to the day when we all will be together again.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Thompson; son, Trey Oglesby and wife Jerrie; daughter, Deanna Herrin and husband Mark; her grandchildren, Josh, Cody, Brett, and Carly; as well as her sisters, Diane Fowler, Robyn Thompson, Gayle Hale, and Nora Olson; as well as a brother, Duane Bestul.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son in April of 2004.
A service celebrating her life was 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 8, at Seward Road Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Elaine's honor to Seward Road Baptist Church.
