Dorothy Slaughter, 74, passed away on July 3, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on April 25, 1942 in Edmond, Okla., to Raymond "Bud" and Bette Bates. She was the great-granddaughter of the Forster Family, one of the original Edmond families.
Dorothy received her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma and worked for 30 years with the Department of Human Resources. She enjoyed playing and coaching softball for many years. Dorothy played the bassoon and taught others to do so. She also loved traveling and visiting the National Parks around the country with her husband and family.
Dorothy is survived by her husband whith whom she enjoyed 53 years, Jarry Slaughter; three daughters, Bette Drylie, Terri Hammond and husband Gary, and Jennifer Dill and husband Mark; three siblings, Janie Bates, Beverly McKenna, and David Bates; five grandchildren, Jason Drylie, Lisa Boice, Kristina Hammond, Kaylee Dill, and Anna Dill, and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 12 - 8 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Baggerley Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
