Daniel Lee Whitlow

Daniel Lee Whitlow, 66, of Edmond, (Logan County) Okla., died peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Sunday afternoon, June 16, 2019, after a brief illness. Born in Jonesboro, Ark., to Robert D. "Buddy" Whitlow and Nellie M. Jowers Whitlow, he grew up in Phoenix, Ariz.
On one of those visits back home, he met his future wife, Lynda. They married in 1973, and had two sons, Craig and Kevin. He moved his family to Phoenix, where he continued doing concrete work for various contractors.
In 1982, Dan moved his family to Oklahoma. He owned DLW Concrete and completed many jobs all over Oklahoma. Dan held a C-8 license in California during the 1990's. In 2001, he moved to Jonesboro, Ark., and started Concepts In Concrete. Ten years ago, he moved his business to Edmond, Okla., where he worked on many large paving jobs in many areas of the state. He had a great work ethic. He used to say, "God put us here on earth to be the best we can be and we have to work to be that!"
Dan loved his friends and family. He lived life to its fullest from metal detecting and gold panning in California's gold country to fishing in Oklahoma, Oregon and Alaska. He loved his thoroughbred horses and the equine industry in general. He took many trips to buy horses at the September Keeneland Sale in Kentucky. He loved to go to the Kentucky Derby. He raced thoroughbred horses at Remington Park, Oaklawn, Churchill, Keeneland and many other tracks around the country. Dan loved the color pink. He always wore a pink shirt to the tracks, white alligator boots and his Concept in Concrete pink baseball cap. After he passed, one friend wrote, "the color pink will always remind me of Dan. The world is certainly less colorful without him in it." Dr. K wrote, "Dan's "spunk" always brightened my day." Dan will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. "Buddy" Whitlow, and a sister, Valerie K. Estorga.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Lynda Whitlow; two sons, Craig Whitlow of Arlington, Texas; and Kevin Whitlow of Burleson, Texas; two grandchildren, Robert Whitlow of Sand Springs, Okla.; and James Whitlow of the home; his mother, Nellie Canady of the home; a sister, Kimberly Vallen of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A big "Thank You" goes to Dr. K at Integris Edmond for his patience, guidance, thoughtfulness, and just the love he showed Dan. A big "Thank You" to Ashley, Lindsey and Karen of Integris Hospice for the wonderful care and love given during Dan's last month of life. And a special "Thank You" to Wade and Dannielle Chickering, Lorie Williams, Meredith Graham, and Phillip Brown.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Retirement Program, PO Box 96, Blanchard, OK 73010.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at a later date.

I am so sorry to hear about Danny’s passing. He was a great friend of my dad Ed Tabor. His calls gave my Dad much joy and comfort while he was in hospice. I hope they are in heaven together telling jokes and laughing. My sincere condolences and prayers to you and your family.
