Corinna J. Powell was born August 6, 1932 in Ryan, Okla. to Lambuth Turner and Irbie Mae (Grantham) Hillery. She passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Okla. surrounded by family.
Corinna was raised and graduated high school in Waurika, Okla. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, graduating with a degree in Music in 1954. Upon graduation she married Ray Harve Powell and together they had four children.
At the time of her death, Corinna lived in Edmond, Okla. since 1980. Prior to that, she lived in Lamont, Calif. for five years; Seminole, Okla. for 13 years and Hollis, Okla. for 8 years. She was blessed to have made and retained many friends from these communities throughout her life.
Corinna was an accomplished musician and loved the piano and Broadway music. Throughout the years, she was always involved in various musical endeavors including choir director at the First United Methodist Church in Hollis; in Seminole she led the Selectones which was a 25-women singing group that entertained different groups in and out of town; and since being in Edmond she has been a faithful member of the church choir.
Throughout her years in Edmond she did a lot of civic work and worked as a substitute teacher. She was an active member of PEO, Chapter ES; the Cambridge Club and St. Luke's and First United Methodist Churches. Corinna loved travel, yard work and OU football and women's basketball.
Corinna was preceded in death by her husband, Ray H. Powell and her parents.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Hillery and sister-in-law Nancy of Waurika, Okla.; daughters, Debbie Brooking of Tulsa, Okla., Heather Owen and her husband Brad of Seattle, Wash., and Courtney Moore and her husband Jason of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Kyle and his wife Sherri of Okmulgee, Okla.; granddaughters, Emily Kleck and her husband Jared of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Madeleine Moore and Greta Moore both of Tucson, Ariz.; grandsons, Calvin Moore of Tucson, Ariz., Alex Brooking of Medford, Ore., Siam Owen and Chai Owen both of Seattle, Wash., Drew Powell of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Harrison Powell and his wife Katy of Glenpool, Okla.; great-grandchildren Jackson and Evelyn Kleck of Broken Arrow, Okla.; niece Leesa Lemon and her husband Matt and daughter Hillery of The Woodlands, Texas; and nephew Brent Hillery and his wife Linda and daughter Payton and son Braden of Wichita Falls, Texas.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017 at St. Luke's Methodist Church, Edmond Campus, 900 North Sooner Road, Edmond, OK.
