Charles was born in Anadarko, Okla. to Ross and Gladys Hume. He attended old Classen High for two years before the family moved to Illinois.
He graduated from University High in Normal, Ill. and went on to Illinois Weslyan in Bloomington, Ill. where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He married his high school sweetheart, Betsy Gottschalk and celebrated 65 years of marriage.
He leaves behind four children: Shelly and Jim Berlin, Robert and Cathy Hume, Randy and Lisa Bowles, Delmar and Cheryl Hume; seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He grew up in the Insurance business and was there for 46 years, and he owned Sherman-Hume Ins. Co. in Oklahoma City for many years. He was a CIC and he wrote the SR22 law.
He loved his family, his land, golf, Sooners, and Thunder. He was an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Edmond, Okla. He felt he never grew up. He had his own little world with one child and three grandchildren and their families living out on the land with him. He loved life.
