Bobby Joe Brown

Bobby Joe Brown This is a celebration of the life of Bobby Joe Brown. He was a loving husband to his wife, Jerry Ann (Hibdon) Brown for 67 years; a faithful, caring, patient father to his sons Don and wife, Debi and Joe and wife, Tammie; an affectionate grandfather to Taylor and wife, Anne, Russell and wife, Diana, Caitlyn and husband, Ryan, Evan, Dawson, Griffin, and Hudson; and a playful great-grandfather to Julieanne, Caroline and Dylan. He was a devoted brother to Dwight and wife Pat and Bill. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Bob was an ardent student of the Bible and faithfully worshipped and served at First Baptist Church in Edmond, Okla., for 50 years. Bob loved the Lord with all his heart and strived to serve him in every endeavor he undertook. He never met a stranger—he was friendly and genuine in all of his personal interactions. He loved to play games around the kitchen table with friends and family alike. Bob was a humble man who put others above himself, yet pursued excellence in all areas of his life—personal, family, as well as business.
Bob received his first degree in higher education from East Central State Oklahoma University and a Doctorate in Education in business administration and vocational education from the University of Oklahoma. He served in various positions in the educational field as a classroom teacher and athletic coach as well as a director and coordinator of vocational technical education, with his last position as a professor for the Department of Administration, Vocational, Adult and Higher Education at the University of Central Oklahoma from 1973-1989. His career was hallmarked by integrity, being an encourager to those around him, and leading through example. He received many awards and recognitions throughout his long career in education, a highlight being inducted into the CareerTech Hall of Fame in 1997. He was also recognized by the Edmond City Council and the Character Council of Edmond as a "Champion of Character" for the trait of virtue in February 2009.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ina Lee and Russel Brown, as well as granddaughter, Annie Laurie and sister-in-law, Mary Brown.
Come-and-go visitation for Bob will be from 12 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019 with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at First Baptist Church in Edmond followed by interment at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur, Okla., at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HOPE Center of Edmond.
His optimistic outlook on life and smiling face will be missed by all of us, but we rejoice with him in being in the presence of God in continuous praise—his life-long goal.
