Amelia Emily Young

Amelia "Amy" Young moved to her heavenly home due to heart failure on March 9, 2019. She was born to Harry and Ada Oaten in Pen Argyl, Pa., in 1934.
Amy married Richard Young in Wind Gap, Pa., in 1954, and they moved to Edmond, Okla., in 1973. She worked for the Edmond Public Schools from 1978-1999 and at the Edmond Public Library from 2000 to 2005. Those of you who knew her well will understand that she couldn't stand to be retired, so she sought out something else, and the library was a perfect fit.
Amy loved her family and friends dearly. She found something special about each one. She found joy in preparing meals for those in need and shopping for the perfect gift or card. She snuggled our babies and would travel miles to help when they were born. She loved board games and found the strength to play recently, even when she needed help getting to the table.
Amy is survived by her loving family: John and Melissa, of Edmond, Okla.; Jayne Butler and husband Scott of Arlington, Texas; Julie Wynkoop of Arlington, Texas; Jeff and wife Susan Young of Bonham, Texas; and daughter-in-law Darcee Young of Edmond, Okla. She loved being Grandma to her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her brother and sister-in-law and her nieces and nephews live in Pennsylvania.
Amy's husband preceded her in death in 2004.
Amy attended NorthChurch in Oklahoma City. She was an ardent reader of recipe books, and she enjoyed baking cakes to share with friends. She loved music, her favorites being gospel and barbershop quartets.
A celebration of her life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2019, at NorthChurch, 1601 Memorial Road, Oklahoma City.
The family wishes to thank Allstar Hospice and caregiver Sheri Chasteen for their loving care during her final months.
Memorials may be sent in Amy's name to the Heart for This House building fund at NorthChurch, P.O. Box 3307, Edmond, OK 73083.

IAmy and I had a great friendship. We loved to walk and we did twice a week for several years at a nearby mall. We didn't gossip but talked about our family and friends. I feel as though I know you all
She was a special friend and someday in Heaven we will walk and talk together again!

Amy Young was a very special person. I have never known a kinder person than Amy. She was always quick to listen and slow to speak. When she spoke I always listened and took to heart what she had to say. I will miss her sweet spirit and kind encouraging words. I'm sure all of heaven is rejoicing at her arrival. I think can sum up Amy Young in 9 words: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control! She was the perfect example of living out the fruit of the spirit! I'm so thankful that I was allowed to be a little part of her life.
