Alice Celeste (Johnson) Finney-Denny, 77, of Edmond, Okla., passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at home surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 22, 1941, in Yazoo City, Miss., to Russell Lester Johnson and Vivian Estella (Thompson) Johnson.
Alice graduated from Great Bend High (KS) in 1959. She graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women, a member of Em Hi Sorority, in Chickasha, Okla., in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught high school home economics in Wichita, Kan., married Don in December 1964 in Great Bend, Kan., and moved to Caracas, Venezuela, two months later. Alice and Don moved back to Kansas in 1968 and finally planted roots in Oklahoma in 1972.
Alice was an avid quilter. She loved knitting, ceramics, gardening, cooking, traveling, and attending her grandchildren's activities. She loved attending quilting retreats with her friends, family reunions, and traveling with her family in her RV across the U.S.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Don Lew Finney; parents, Russell Johnson and Vivian Johnson-Cronin; and daughter, Stephanie Lynne Finney.
Alice is survived by Ivan Denny, husband of six years; daughter, Jennifer Finney Hines and David and their two children, Elizabeth and Jackson of Edmond, Okla.; son, Shelby and Mindy Finney and their two children, Summer and Gunnar of Jet, Okla.; two step grandchildren, Taylor and Mallory Hines Morgan and their four children, Michael Hines, and three stepchildren, Kris Denny, Andi Pendergraft and David Denny; a total of 11 other step-grandkids and step-great-grandkids.
A Celebration of Life memorial service has been set for 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd.
